Neon Genesis Evangelion 2.0 Out Japan, Coming to America Soon?

The second of four remakes of Neon Genesis Evangelion into a movie series, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, ravaged Japan's theaters with an estimated opening of 550 million yen, which is roughly $5.72 million.

The Fall of the American Anime Industry

Pirating anime was how most popular shows like Ranma 1/2 and Cowboy Bebop made their way to the States in the first place. Before the Internet, trading VHS tapes of fansubs, anime captured from Japanese releases with homegrown English subtitles, was the only way to view these shows. Only a few shows like Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Voltron and Robotech were ever shown on American television. Many of those shows manipulated the original source material, sometimes combining multiple anime programs that had nothing to do with each other, tying them together with English dubbing and an American writer.

The Most Unforgivable Incidents in Anime History by 2chan

Japanese Internet Imageboard and Otaku Sensation, 2chan, recently posted the most unforgivable incidents in anime history. Welcome datacomp posted the results here. Below is some of the ones that stood out:

  • The existence of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Seriously? It's bad, but not THAT bad)
  • Episode 4 of Gurren-Lagann
  • Haruhi Suzumiya's Endless Eight
 Here are some of personal unforgivable incidents;

  • Adult Swim heavily reducing their anime selection
  • Toonami being moved to Saturdays only and eventually being cancelled.
  • The original English dub of Dragonball Z

Watch the First Seven Minutes of Gundam Unicorn

Here is the first seven minutes of Gundam Unicorn, the newest Gundam show.



From the looks of the first seven minutes, the show reminds me of Gundam F91. It will have some serious elements and involve some character backstory. It will be releasing on March 12 on Blu-ray. It will be interesting to see what the general reviews will be on this.
